Subscriber opt-in is crucial when it comes to SMS marketing efforts. Read on to learn how your shoppers can opt-in to receive texts from your business!
An SMS subscriber is someone who agrees to let you send them marketing promotions via text message. Shoppers must grant your business permission to send them texts.
Sending texts to shoppers who have not explicitly opted into SMS marketing can land your business hot water. If shoppers report your texts as spam, it can impact the delivery of your text messages and/or result in fines and legal action.
SMS Opt-In During Registration
When a shopper registers for an account with your shop, they are given the option to enter their Phone Number. Beneath that field is the SMS Notifications opt-in checkbox.
CommentSold provides opt-in language that ensures the shopper knows the type of communication they are consenting to (i.e., SMS texts), and shoppers can hover over the More Information link to learn more about SMS notifications.
SMS Opt-Out Options
There are two options for those shoppers who wish to opt-out or unsubscribe from SMS notifications from your business: via text message and through their account page.
At any time, a shopper can respond "STOP" in the text message thread with your shop and be unsubscribed from text messages. They will receive one last text that confirms their request and provides information about opting back in, if desired.
