Setting Up Marketing Automation

CommentSold makes it easy to automate emails to your customers.

The first step in creating impactful marketing automation emails is building your list of email subscribers. New customers will be prompted to opt in to marketing emails during account creation, while existing shoppers will be prompted to opt in at check out with a pre-checked checkbox.

Managing Your Email Subscribers

You can view the opt in status of your customers by viewing the “Email Opt In” column on the Customers Tab. Each customer will either show a “YES,” “NO,” or “N/A”, indicating no response.

You can manually unsubscribe a customer from marketing automation emails by clicking the three dots in the “Manage” column and selecting “Opt Out of Marketing Emails.”

Marketing automation emails will also include an "Unsubscribe" link in the footer. Customers who opt out of marketing emails will still receive transactional emails such as waitlist updates, purchase confirmations, and tracking information. Customers who opt out will be able to opt back in each time they check out or at any time by editing their CommentSold account settings.

Note: Customer opt ins and outs are only communicated to Shopify if completed through the checkbox during checkout. The status of customers who opt in or out of marketing emails through the welcome dialog box or CommentSold account settings is not sent to Shopify.

Once you’ve established your subscribed email audience, you’re ready to begin marketing automation!

Enabling Marketing Automation

Built into CommentSold are 5 powerful automated emails to welcome customers and capture sales.

To enable marketing automation emails, visit the Setup tab in your CommentSold admin dashboard and click Marketing Automation.

Under "General Settings," you will need to select the Shopping Destination to which you would like email links to direct your customers. The options are Account Page or Webstore.

Next, you will see the 5 campaign types, separated into One-Time Campaigns and Ongoing Campaigns. You can enable any combination of these campaigns.

Product Recommendations in Emails

Product recommendations will be displayed in a dedicated section at the bottom of automated emails. When this setting is enabled, emails will show up to 4 suggested products to help customers discover new or complementary products.

Here’s how they work:

  • For emails that send updates about specific products (such as the Abandoned Cart Recovery email), our system will suggest other products in the same collection filtered by what’s in stock and sorted by most recently published.
  • For other automated emails (such as the Win Back email), the product suggestions will show the most recently published products.

By default, this setting is enabled in the Setup tab under Templates>Emails.
