Live Selling Directly on Facebook with CommentSold

This article provides instructions on how to use stream keys to go live directly through Facebook—while still using CommentSold!

 
The steps in this article make it possible for you to use CommentSold's live selling functionality, including the Live Overlay, without Facebook treating your stream as coming from a third party! If you are concerned with the performance of your live sales on Facebook, we recommend you try the method outlined in this article.
 
We will also cover how to use Facebook Shops features along with CommentSold for live selling.

Going Live on Facebook Without Facebook Shops

  1. Navigate to the Live tab of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Click Live Overview.
  3. Open the CommentSold Broadcast app and click the red button to begin capturing the video from your mobile device's camera. Click Refresh Stream in Step 1 of the Live Overview.
  4. Select whether or not you will use manual or dynamic product selection in Step 2. 
  5. Click the button on Step 3 that says Choose Where to Go Live.
  6. Choose Copy & paste stream URLs.

  7. In a new tab, open your Facebook page or group and click Live Video to start a live video through Facebook Producer. This step must be done on desktop. The live option will not show on mobile devices.

Important! Facebook is slowly rolling out new changes to Facebook Live Producer. The next steps can vary depending on whether or not your account has received these updates. 

Below is a screenshot of what the "old" Live Producer design looks like. If this is what you see on screen, continue using the instructions listed below. If you see a different screen, you have received the "new" Live Producer design. Click here to skip to the instructions for the new Live Producer.

Using the "Old" Live Producer Design

  1. Under "Choose where to post", confirm you are posting to the correct page or group you want to go live on.
  2. Then, under "Get Started", click Use Stream Key.
  3. Under "Live Stream Setup", you'll see the Server URL and the Stream Key. Copy and paste these into the appropriate fields on Step 3 in your CommentSold dashboard.

11. Click the blue Go Live button in CommentSold.

12. Return to the Facebook Live Producer.  On the right side of the screen under Settings, switch off End live video if stream stops. This will turn the switch from blue to grey.

13. Under "Post", enter a Title and Description for your live sale (these are required). Then click Go Live!

14. Return to the CommentSold Live Overview and continue with your live sale as normal! You will see "Linked" along with a green checkmark confirming that your Facebook live video is correctly connected to CommentSold.

With this method of going live, Facebook will view your live sale no differently than it would if you were not using CommentSold. 

 

Using the "New" Live Producer Design

If your account has received updates to the Live Producer Design, the interface will look like this. New.png

  1. Under "Choose where to post", confirm you are posting to the correct page or group you want to go live on.
  2. To the right of the menu, you will see two options. Click the Create Live Video button to continue.
  3. You'll see a popup welcoming you to Live Producer. It will ask you what the goal of your video is. Select I want to reach a broader audience to ensure your video reaches the largest amount of viewers.
  4. On the next page, it will ask about your video source. Select Streaming Software, then click Next in the dialogue box below.

  5. On the next page, enter a Title and Description for your live sale. Click Next when complete.
  6. At this point, you'll be on the Stream Setup page of Live Producer, where you will grab your Stream Key and Server URL.

    Your Stream Key will appear near the top. Click Advanced Settings to access the Server URL. Copy and paste these into the appropriate fields on Step 3 in your CommentSold dashboard.

    If you want to stream to both your page and group, make certain you've ticked the box for each and filled out the Server URL and Stream Key for both.
  7. Click the blue Go Live button in CommentSold.

  8. Switch back to Facebook Live Producer. On the left menu click Settings, then switch off End live video if stream stops. This will turn the switch from blue to grey.
  9. Click Stream Setup from the left menu. If stream keys have been set up correctly, your video preview will appear here.
  10. When you're ready to go live, click the button to Start Live from the bottom left.
  11. Now you're live with steam keys! Switch back to the Live Overview to manage your live sale as usual.

Going Live on Facebook With Facebook Shops

 

Note: Going live with Facebook Shops requires you to create a Facebook product catalog. Because this is often a lengthy process, we recommend creating this catalog at least 12-24 hours in advance of your live sale. To learn how to create a Facebook product catalog, click here.



  1. Navigate to the Live tab of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Click Live Overview.
  3. Open the CommentSold Broadcast app and click the red button to begin capturing the video from your mobile device's camera. Click Refresh Stream in Step 1 of the Live Overview.
  4. Select whether or not you will use manual or dynamic product selection in Step 2. 
  5. Click the button on Step 3 that says Choose Where to Go Live.
  6. Choose Copy & paste stream URLs.

  7. In a new tab, open Facebook. 
  8. Start a new live stream using Facebook Live Producer. This step must be done on desktop. The live option will not show on mobile devices.
  9. Select the tab for Live Shopping and enable Live Shopping.

  10. Choose products from the Facebook product catalog you previously created. We recommend creating a product using your store logo as the image and linking it to your CommentSold account page. 
  11. Go to the Stream Setup tab within the Facebook Live Producer.
  12. Under Get Started, click Use Stream Key.

  13. The lower right of the screen will display the Server URL and the Stream Key. Copy and paste these into the appropriate fields on Step 3 in your CommentSold dashboard.

    Paste these into the Live Overview into the appropriate fields. If you want to stream to both your page and group, make certain you've ticked the box for each and filled out the Server URL and Stream Key for both.

  14. In the left column of the Facebook Live Producer, be sure Publish as a test broadcast is unchecked.

  15. Click Go Live in the CommentSold Live Overview.
  16. Return to the Facebook Live Producer. Enter a Title and Description for your live sale (these are required). Then click Go Live!

  17. Once you are live, you will be able to select a product within Facebook to feature. We recommend featuring the product you created that links to your CommentSold account page.

  18. Return to the CommentSold Live Overview and continue with your live sale as normal! You will see "Linked" along with a green check mark confirming that your Facebook live video is correctly connected to CommentSold.
