Offer PayPal as a Payment Option on Your Mobile App

Want to offer PayPal as an additional payment option for shoppers using your mobile app?

Retailers who have connected their PayPal business account to CommentSold in order to accept and process customer payments also have the option to add PayPal as a payment method on their mobile app.

By adding PayPal to their mobile app, retailers can offer their customers more options during checkout which can contribute to increased customer purchases.

  Note: PayPal One Touch does not currently work with the CommentSold mobile app.

How PayPal for Your Mobile App Benefits Your Business

  • Allow shoppers to use their PayPal account to pay for purchases.
  • Give shoppers the option via PayPal to pay using a bank account or a credit card.

Locate Your Tokenization Key In PayPal

To view or generate your tokenization keys:

  1. Log into either the Production Control Panel or the Sandbox Control Panel, depending on which environment you are working in.
  2. Select the Gear icon in the top right corner
  3. Select API from the drop-down menu.
  4. Scroll to the Tokenization Keys section.
  5. Select the Generate New Tokenization Key button to generate a new token.

Or 

  1. Navigate to your PayPal dashboard.
  2. Select Business Tools from the options listed above.
  3. Scroll down and select API Credentials under Streamline Operations section.
  4. Select Get Started.
  5. Copy the Secret code from the desired REST API apps listed. If you haven't created one, you can create a new app by selecting Create App.
  6. Enter your App Name and select Create App.
  7. Copy the Secret code (token).
  Note: Your token will appear as a string of letters and numbers. The above example shows this item as asterisks for privacy. You should never share your token publically.

Enter Your Tokenization Key In CommentSold

  1. Select Mobile App in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Settings from the options listed at the top of the page.
  3. Scroll and locate the Braintree Token section at the bottom-right corner of the page.
  4. Enter your PayPal Token in the field provided, then select Save.

Troubleshooting Errors

Here are some common errors and their resolutions:

Error: “We are sorry but we do not accept e-checks or your payment was declined” on checkout

  1. If you recently set up a new PayPal account, confirm that the email address is entered here: https://www.paypal.com/businessmanage/account/accountPreferences
    You may also want to check your email to see if you need to verify your email address with PayPal.
  2. Confirm that you have verified your bank account in your Paypal account.
  3. Confirm your Paypal account is a Business Account.
  4. In your Paypal account, confirm that under Settings > Payment Preferences > Block payments that the checkbox is not checked here: 
     

Issue: Pay in 4 Not Showing as an option In the App
Note: Pay in 4 does not show as a button in the app, it shows as an option once the customer has been redirected to PayPal to check out.

  1. Make sure you have the most recent version of the app.
  2. There is a $30 cart minimum for Pay in 4. If the cart total is below this amount, Pay in 4 will not show as an option.
  3. Pay in 4 is not available in Missouri, New Mexico, Nevada, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and U.S. territories.

If none of the above apply, typically that means PayPal already did an internal check on the customer’s account.
During this check, based on the customer’s past usage and history, PayPal may have decided it wasn’t a suitable option for them at this time.
