Barcodes are a great way for you to keep track of your inventory and make sure that the right items are shipped to your customers. You'll need a barcode printer, scanner, and labels to get started.
Enable Product Barcodes
To print barcodes, you will need to enable both the Product Barcodes and PDF Barcodes toggles on the Barcodes tab of your Setup page.
- Select Setup in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select Barcodes from the options listed at the top of the page.
- Locate the Product Barcodes toggle and select it so it appears as Enabled.
- Locate the PDF Barcodes toggle and select it so it appears as Enabled.
If you want the product price and/or location to show on the barcode, you can enable the Show Price and Show Location toggles.
Set Label Type Preferences
- Select Products in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select the product whose barcodes you wish to print.
- Scroll to the Variant & Inventory Options section of the product page.
- Locate and select the gear icon to the right of the Print All Barcodes button.
- In the pop-up, choose the Label Type you will use from the drop-down list.
- Select Save & Print.
Once you save this preference, it becomes the default for all product barcodes moving forward. If you ever wish to change the barcodes you use, simply select the gear icon again and select your new label type from the drop-down list.
If you plan to print labels using multiple computers, you will need to select the Label Type preference on each device.
Print Barcode Label for a Single Product
- Select Products in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select the product whose barcodes you wish to print.
- Scroll to the Variant & Inventory Options section of the product page.
- Use the Print Tag button to print a single label or use the Print Barcodes button to print multiple labels. The Print Barcodes button give the option to choose:
- Print Available Quantity
- Print On Shelf Count
Once you select your printing option, your Print wizard for your computer will appear. Ensure you select your barcode printer from the Printer drop-down before you print.
Print Barcode Labels for Multiple Products in Bulk
- Select Products from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard..
- Select the Checkboxes for the products you wish to print the barcodes.
- Select the blue Items Selected drop-down.
- Select Print Product Barcodes.
- Select the Label Type.
- If it is a Custom Label, enter Width and Height.
- Select one from the following:
- Available Quantity: Prints a barcode for each available unit of the selected variants.
- On Shelf Count: Prints a barcode for each unit in the "on shelf" count of the selected variants.
- Once done, select Print Barcodes.
- Select the available printer and print the barcodes.
Using Custom Barcodes
Syncing your products to CommentSold from Shopify or Square? You can avoid printing new barcodes by using your existing Shopify or Square barcodes for certain functions in CommentSold.
Expected Behaviors
Custom barcodes:
- Can be scanned in the Fulfillment tab
- Can be scanned during live sales using MultiSource
- Work with Shopify or UPC codes
- Can be used alongside CommentSold barcodes (if one is entered)
- Work with CS Point of Sale
- Cannot be scanned to add to cart
- Cannot be scanned in the Orders tab
- Cannot be scanned during live sales using the Broadcast App
Setting Up Custom Barcodes
- If you’re using Shopify with MSM Sync: Custom barcodes will automatically sync into the Custom Barcode field in CommentSold.
- If you’re using other barcode systems: You can manually add them to products.
- Select the Products tab from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select the product you want to update.
- Scroll down to the Variants section.
- In the Custom Barcode field, scan the barcode for that item.
- Select Update at the top right corner to save.
