Understanding Payment Failures
Subscriptions with failed renewal payments appear in both the dashboard summary and the Customers report.
When a renewal payment fails:
- The subscription moves to the Payment Failed status.
- The customer automatically receives a failed payment notification email.
- The customer must update their payment method before future renewals can continue.
Monitoring payment failures regularly can help reduce subscriber churn and recover recurring revenue.
Best Practices
Review your subscription reports regularly to help identify trends and improve subscription performance.
Consider monitoring:
- Subscriber growth over time.
- Products with the highest recurring revenue.
- Failed payments that require customer follow-up.
- Cancelled subscriptions to identify potential retention opportunities.
- Capacity and waitlist data for Subscription Boxes to help plan future inventory.
Regularly reviewing these reports can help you optimize inventory planning, improve customer retention, and better understand your shop's recurring revenue performance.
