Bestie, MCP Connector & AI Product Creation

This article explains how shops use Bestie and the CommentSold MCP connector to manage your store using an AI assistant and AI Product Creator to streamline product creation. It covers what the feature does, how to get connected, and what you can (and can't yet) do with it.

Bestie is CommentSold's built-in AI assistant, and MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a connector that lets you use that same assistant through AI chat apps you may already use, like Claude or ChatGPT. Both run on the same set of tools, so whichever way you connect, you're giving the assistant secure, permission-scoped access to your shop's data to help you run day-to-day tasks - checking inventory, pulling sales reports, managing customers, and more - using plain, conversational requests instead of clicking through multiple screens.

Prerequisites

Before you get started, make sure you have:

  • A CommentSold plan that supports AI features.
  • A supported AI client. Claude and ChatGPT are fully supported.

How to Use Bestie

Simply click the Ask Bestie button in the top of your Dashboard to get started. Screenshot 2026-09-10 at 2.49.31 PM.png

Connecting the CommentSold MCP to Your AI Client

  1. Add the CommentSold connector in your AI client. In Claude (or your supported AI client of choice), go to your connector or integrations settings and add the CommentSold MCP connector.
  2. Sign in with your admin account. You'll be prompted to log in using the admin credentials from Step One.
  3. Complete first-time sign-in steps, if prompted. On your very first login, you may be asked to set a new password and set up multi-factor authentication (MFA). This is a one-time step.
  4. Start chatting. Once connected, you can ask your AI assistant to look up information or make changes in your shop directly from the chat.

Tip: If your assistant doesn't seem to know about a newly released capability, try fully disconnecting and reconnecting the CommentSold connector in your AI client's settings. Simply refreshing the tool list isn't always enough to pick up new tools.

What You Can Do With It

You can ask your assistant to help with tasks across several areas of your shop:

Products & Inventory

  • Search products and check inventory levels
  • Adjust inventory and view inventory history
  • Find low-stock products and set low-stock thresholds
  • Update product pricing, status, category, and shipping prices
  • Create, update, and manage collections

Orders & Sales

  • Look up and list orders
  • Pull sales summaries and inventory performance reports
  • Check Live show performance

Customers

  • Search for customers
  • Build customer segments and lists based on recent activity
  • Add store credit to a customer or a segment of customers

Marketing & Coupons

  • Create coupons (percent or dollar off, free shipping, scoped to specific items, with minimum purchase amounts, usage limits, and date ranges)
  • Send marketing emails using coupon codes
  • Send push notifications to segments or specific customer lists
Tip: If your assistant doesn't seem to know about a newly released capability, try fully disconnecting and reconnecting the CommentSold connector in your AI client's settings. Simply refreshing the tool list isn't always enough to pick up new tools.
Note: Marketing and coupon capabilities are currently in limited testing and are not yet available to all shops.

AI Product Creation

AI Product Creation lets you create a new product using product images. CommentSold's AI analyzes the uploaded images and uses them to create the product, so you can add or update the remaining product details afterward. Learn how to create a product using AI here.

What Can I Add After AI Creates the Product?

You can add or update the product's remaining details after the AI creates the initial product. This allows you to get the product created from images first and complete the product setup afterward.

For example, you can add or update:

  • Selling price
  • Cost
  • SKU
  • Variants and sizes
  • Inventory
  • Collections
  • Other product details

Limitations

  • Coupon creation currently supports common discount types but not everything available in the dashboard — for example, BOGO or free-gift coupons, VIP-tier restrictions, and editing or deleting existing coupons. Use the admin dashboard directly for these.
  • Customer segmentation looks at roughly the last 180 days of purchase activity from the time of AI connection. Because of this, the data may be limited at first and customers who haven't ordered recently (even if they have store credit) may not appear in a segment.
  • There's currently no way to export a bulk report as a single file — large reports may need to be pulled in smaller batches.
  • Sales summaries include orders from all connected sales channels (including Shopify, if connected) by default, which may not match totals shown on dashboards that default to CommentSold-only data.
  • Inventory data for fully sold-out products isn't currently available through the assistant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my shop's data used to train the AI?

No. CommentSold does not use your prompts or data to train any AI models.

Can my customers use Bestie or MCP?

No. Bestie and MCP are built for shop staff to manage their store — they are not customer-facing tools. Customers may be on the receiving end of actions you take, like a coupon or push notification, but they don't interact with the assistant directly.

How long does my connection stay active?

Your session stays active automatically for up to 30 days. After that, you'll need to sign in again.

Can CommentSold turn this off if something goes wrong?

Yes. Access is scoped to your shop and can be disabled by CommentSold at any time if needed — for example, to investigate an issue.

Which AI apps can I use this with?

Claude and ChatGPT are currently supported.
