As CommentSold introduces flexible payment options and surcharging to cover certain payment processing costs, it’s important to understand how these changes may impact your business. This FAQ guide covers everything you need to know about new ACH payment options, surcharging, including fee calculations, payment options, compliance with state regulations, and more.

General

Will there be a surcharge on CommentSold fees?

In general, CommentSold does not currently and will continue NOT to charge any payment processing fees on CommentSold fees (including your monthly subscription and commissions), no matter how you choose to pay.  There will also be no changes to your existing CS Payments terms, which of course do require payment processing fees per transaction.

Does this impact the processing fees I charge my customers?

No, this has no impact on any charges to your customers.

ACH Payment Option

Will I need to manually authorize ACH each time I pay?

No, you will authorize an ACH debit when you first configure your payment method settings. This authorization will remain in effect for future auto-payments in cases you have selected ACH debit as the payment method.

How long does it take for an ACH payment to process?

ACH debit payments are typically processed within 1 - 2 business days

What happens if my ACH payment fails?

CommentSold will attempt to reprocess the ACH transaction.

Surcharging Fee

When would a surcharge fee be applicable?

In general, a surcharge fee would be applied for third party pass-through costs, if you choose to continue to pay these via credit card.  For example, this would include shipping label costs and shipping adjustments.  Another example would be costs for Dropship orders paid via a payment method other than CS Payments or Klarna – currently, these costs are being charged to your CS Payments account, but going forward you will be able to pay these charges via ACH debit transaction (with no additional fee) or via credit card (with a processing fee).  In all of these scenarios, you can always pay these third party pass-through costs via ACH and avoid surcharges entirely.

Will the surcharge fee apply to all credit cards, including debit cards?

The fee will apply to all credit card transactions.  Debit cards will no longer be accepted with this change. Customers currently paying with debit cards will have an option to pay through ACH debit instead.

Will the surcharge fee be the same regardless of which credit card I use?

The fee assessed will never be based on the type of credit card that you use. However, the fee may vary from time to time, based on CommentSold’s actual processing costs incurred and which state you are located in.

If my payment fails and I retry it later, will I be charged the surcharge fee again?

The fee will be included in the second charge attempt, but you will only pay for the fee one time. The first payment failed, so you would not pay CommentSold for any portion of that failed payment.

Will the surcharge fee be included in my total charge, or is it a separate charge?  Can I see a breakdown of the exact processing costs?

The fee will be added to the total charge amount and yes, the fee will be visible as a separate line item on all applicable CommentSold charges.

How was the 3% surcharge fee determined?

The fee is not a fixed 3% rate. Instead, it is the lesser of CommentSold’s actual processing costs incurred and the maximum allowable fee in your state.  CommentSold does not profit from this fee.

Compliance

How does CommentSold ensure compliance with applicable state regulations?

CommentSold is using a third-party provider to calculate your processing fees. You will not be charged a fee by CommentSold if your state prohibits processing fees. State laws regarding processing fees may change over time, and this third-party provider’s technology updates CommentSold’s processing fees to ensure compliance with the latest state laws in effect at the time.

What happens if I move to a state where the fee is prohibited?

The state in which the billing address that is connected to your credit card is located will determine the state laws applicable to your charges. If you move to a state where the fee is prohibited, be sure to update your credit card for your new address.

Will I need to update my accounting practices to account for this fee?

Please consult with an accounting professional.

How do I dispute a charge if I believe the fee was charged incorrectly?

Contact CommentSold customer support.

Other

Can I prepay credits before June 1 to avoid the fee?

CommentSold accepts prepaid credits for shipping labels, and you would be able to increase your prepaid shipping balance before this implementation.  However, we cannot accept prepayments for other third party pass-through costs.
