Create a Coupon Code

Why Use This Feature?

  • Invite inactive shoppers back to your business to check out new products and make a purchase
  • Create coupons that can only be redeemed on specific sales channels, helping drive traffic.
  • Discount specific items, collections, or live sale products.
  • Offer free shipping when specific parameters are met.
A note about Free Shipping coupons: If a customer adds a product with a free shipping offer to their cart, then the entire order will receive free shipping. Free shipping cannot be combined with any other offers. For example, if a shopper has a free shipping coupon and a 10% off coupon code, they will have to choose which offer they wish to receive—free shipping on the order or the 10% off the order.

Create a Coupon Code

  1. Select Coupons in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Add Coupon in the top-right corner of the page.

Customize a New Coupon

You'll need to enter the key characteristics of the coupon code so CommentSold can apply the correct discount to the correct set of purchasing conditions. We walk through each field below.

General Where It Applies Rules & Limits

  1. What kind of coupon? Select the type of discount you want to create.
    • Flat Amount Off. Offer a fixed dollar amount off the order.
    • Percentage Off. Offer a percentage discount off the order.
    • BOGO. Create a Buy X, Get Y promotion. Specify the qualifying purchase and the discounted or free item.
    • Free Shipping. Remove shipping charges from qualifying orders.
  2. Coupon Code. Enter the code shoppers will use to redeem the coupon at checkout (e.g., SUMMER20). Coupon codes cannot contain spaces.
  3. Discount Amount. Enter the dollar amount or percentage discount for the selected coupon type. For BOGO coupons, enter the percentage discount you want to apply. Set the value to 100% to make the item free.
  4. Apply Discount. Choose how the discount is applied:
    • Off Entire Order – Applies the discount once to the qualifying order.
    • Off Each Qualifying Item – Applies the discount to every qualifying item in the order.
  5. Calculate Based On. Choose how the discount amount is calculated:
    • Current Price – Uses the product's current selling price.
    • Original Retail Price – Uses the product's original retail price before any markdowns.
  6. Internal Description (Optional). Enter an internal note to help identify the coupon. This description is only visible to your staff.

Once you have completed all necessary fields, select Add Coupon in the bottom-right corner of the page.

Select Save as Inactive if you wish to activate it sometime later.

Note: CommentSold does not currently sync Shopify BOGO or product-specific coupons. You will need to create these coupons in CommentSold.

Edit an Existing Coupon

To edit an existing coupon, navigate to your Coupons page and select the three dots to the far right of the coupon row. Select Edit from the drop-down.

If you wish to make changes to a coupon, you will need to confirm it is active first. Expired codes will also show as Inactive.
