Love product categories, but want more customization or specificity on your website? Read on to learn how.

CommentSold Product Categories offer pre-existing categorization based on Google Product Taxonomy; however, we want shops to be empowered to create more detailed categories for their products. That’s where product types come in.

With product types, you can create custom categories that better organize your products. For example, if you were to use the default product categories for shirts, you would be limited to Apparel & Accessories > Clothing > Shirts & Tops. With product types, you can specify as detailed as Blouses, Long-Sleeve, Sleeveless, etc.

You can use product types you create to then organize the bidding and reporting in your Google Ads Shopping campaigns.

Like product categories, you will assign a product type on the product record. Before you can do that, though, you’ll need to create your custom product types in CommentSold.

Enable Product Types

When you enable product types, you add these types to your mobile app and website product filters. This includes the default filters on category and collection pages.

If you do not wish to add these filters to your mobile app and website, you can leave this setting disabled. You can still create and use product types for your own internal admin use.

  1. Select Website Content in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Product Types from the options listed at the top of the page.
  3. Select the Product Types toggle to enable the feature.

Create a Product Type

  1. Select Website Content in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Product Types from the options listed at the top of the page.
  3. Select + Add New Product Type on the right side of the page.
  4. On the pop-up, enter the name of the new product type in the field provided, then select Add Product Type.

If you ever need to make changes to a product type name, select the three-dot icon on the far right of the type's row. There you can choose between Rename Product Type and Remove Product Type.
