Is My Ship Manager Order & Inventory Sync right for me?
If you meet the following conditions, My Ship Manager could be the perfect fit for your business.
- You use both Shopify and CommentSold, and want to take advantage of CommentSold fulfillment benefits.
- You have a single fulfillment location.
- You’re still comfortable fulfilling any digital orders (like gift cards) in Shopify.
- You’re aware that at this time, only Shopify orders will autocombine, and only CommentSold orders will autocombine (i.e., an order made on your Shopify store won’t auto-combine with an order made on your CS mobile app).

Combining Accounts
Combining customer accounts can streamline account management and improve customer experience by consolidating multiple profiles into a single account. You can now combine customer accounts created via Meta platforms (e.g., Facebook or Instagram) with CommentSold accounts.
- Select Customers in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Look for the desired customer and select the three-dot icon beside the customer picture.
- Select Combine Account.
- Select the red Combine button beside the account you want to combine.
-
Restrictions on External Accounts:
- Only CommentSold accounts can serve as the target account for merging.
- Accounts created via third-party integrations (e.g., Shopify) cannot be merged at this time.
-
Best Practices for Combining Accounts:
- Verify Ownership: Confirm that the accounts being combined belong to the same customer.
- Review Account Data: Ensure both accounts contain accurate and relevant data before merging.
- Follow Restrictions: Always select a CommentSold account as the target during the merge process.
Shopify API Update Impacting MSM Inventory Sync
Starting December 27th, 2024, My Ship Manager will connect to a new Shopify API (as required by Shopify), which changes how inventory updates are managed for shops using both Shopify and CommentSold with My Ship Manager (MSM). To ensure a seamless shopping experience, CommentSold and MSM have optimized inventory handling to minimize delays and reduce the risk of overselling.
How Inventory is Managed
CommentSold has introduced new default settings to reserve inventory, reducing the likelihood of overselling and minimizing customer delays during carting and checkout. Here's how it works:
-
High Quantity Variants (Default: >10)
-
No Waiting for a Shopify Response: If a product has more than 10 units available (default threshold), CommentSold immediately processes sales without waiting for MSM to receive a response from Shopify.
- This faster checkout approach reduces timeouts, wait time or “spinning wheels” for shoppers.
-
Adjustable Global Threshold: The default threshold is 10, you can change this under Setup > MSM.
- If you set the threshold to 0, CommentSold will not wait for inventory confirmation even for low-quantity variants—useful only if Shopify is strictly for product creation, inventory tracking, or reporting (otherwise setting this to 0 may increase the risk of overselling).
-
No Waiting for a Shopify Response: If a product has more than 10 units available (default threshold), CommentSold immediately processes sales without waiting for MSM to receive a response from Shopify.
-
Low Quantity Variants (Default: ≤10)
-
15-Minute Reservation: When a variant with 10 (default threshold) or fewer quantity is carted (or purchased for shops using First Paid First Served) CommentSold will reserve the remaining inventory by updating the Shopify inventory count to 0 for the variant for 15 minutes (by default).
- If the item sells or is carted again within that 15-minute window, the timer resets to 15 minutes.
- If no additional carting or checkout occurs for the variant in the 15-minute window, the remaining reserved inventory is released back to Shopify.
-
Maximum Reservation Duration - 24 Hours: You can set the reservation duration anywhere from 3 minutes up to 24 hours in Setup > MSM.
- Longer reservation periods may make sense for shops that don't sell on Shopify.
-
15-Minute Reservation: When a variant with 10 (default threshold) or fewer quantity is carted (or purchased for shops using First Paid First Served) CommentSold will reserve the remaining inventory by updating the Shopify inventory count to 0 for the variant for 15 minutes (by default).
Examples of Inventory Behavior
Scenario 1: Inventory Above Quantity Threshold
Quantity threshold set to 10 & duration set to 15 minutes
If a size small hot pink shirt has an inventory of 30, CommentSold will process the sale without waiting for an update from Shopify to remain in sync. If sales are happening in multiple channels, Shopify and CommentSold inventory can be temporarily out of sync while over the reservation limit.
Scenario 2: Inventory Below Quantity Threshold
Quantity threshold set to 10 & duration set to 15 minutes
If the size small hot pink shirt has an inventory of 5, here’s what happens when a customer adds the variant to their cart or checks out if the shop is on First Paid First Served:
- CommentSold will “reserve” the remaining inventory for sale in CommentSold by updating the Shopify inventory count to 0 for the variant for 15 minutes.
- CommentSold inventory continues to show the available quantity of 5.
If no further activity occurs (e.g., the item is not purchased or recarted), Shopify's inventory will revert to 5 after 15 minutes. If the item is carted again or purchased, the time resets to 15 minutes from the time of the action.

Your Selling Experience
-
Cart Timers:
- Traditional cart timers remain fully supported. Shoppers can add items to their carts and have a set time to check out before the product is released.
-
First Paid, First Served (FPFS):
- FPFS is still an option if you prefer to ensure that only paid orders claim the inventory.
