If you’re using Shopify with MSM Sync or our Square product sync integration, you can take advantage of custom barcodes for inventory management and live sales. This article explains how to set up custom barcodes and clarifies where they will and will not work.
Compatibility Checklist
Before setting up custom barcodes, confirm the following:
- Shopify Sync: Do you have Shopify synced? If yes, Shopify barcodes will automatically sync to CommentSold.
- Square Sync: Using our Square product sync integration? See the Expected Behaviors section below to ensure you understand how those custom barcodes interact with your setup.
- Goals: Clearly define what you want to accomplish with custom barcodes and confirm that the feature meets those needs.
Expected Behaviors
What Custom Barcodes Can Do
- Scannable in the Fulfillment tab
- Scannable during live sales using MultiSource
- Compatible with Shopify or UPC codes
- You can still use CommentSold-generated barcodes if a custom barcode is entered
- Works with CS Point of Sale
What Custom Barcodes Cannot Do
- Cannot scan to manually add to cart in the customer account section
- Cannot scan for fulfillment in the Orders/Fulfillment tab
- Cannot scan during live sales using the Broadcast App
Setting Up Custom Barcodes
If Using Shopify with MSM Sync
- Custom barcodes from Shopify automatically sync into the Custom Barcode field in CommentSold. No additional setup is required.
If Using Square or Other Custom Barcodes
- Select the Products tab from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select the product you want to update.
- Scroll down to the Variants section.
- In the Custom Barcode field, scan the barcode for that item.
- Select Update at the top right corner to save.
