How It Works
SmartSuggest encourages upselling and increases the likelihood of your customers adding more items to their purchase before completing their order.
Prerequisites
To ensure high-quality and relevant product recommendations, your shop must meet these minimum criteria to utilize the Smart Suggest feature:
- Account Age: Your shop must have been active for at least 1 month.
- Gross Merchandise Value (GMV): Achieved a minimum of $1,000 in GMV over the past 12 months.
- Product Catalog: Maintain at least 20 active products in your catalog.
Here are the key points to ensure SmartSuggest AI Product Recommendations function effectively:
- Assign Products to Categories: Ensure each product is assigned to at least one category in your inventory. This enables SmartSuggest to generate relevant product recommendations. Learn how to add & assign product categories here.
- Exclusion of Dropship Items: Dropship items are excluded from SmartSuggest recommendations. These products will neither trigger SmartSuggest suggestions nor be recommended to customers.
| Why is this important? The AI engine uses these categories to understand what kind of items a customer is viewing or purchasing and recommends complementary products based on that context. |
Example Recommendations Based on Product Categories:
- If a customer adds a “Dresses” item to their cart, SmartSuggest might recommend other items in this same product category.
Adding product categories not only powers SmartSuggest but also helps your inventory stay organized and searchable.
Enable SmartSuggest
You can enable or disable SmartSuggest for your customers during checkout.
- Select AI Tools in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select SmartSuggest from the options listed at the top of the page.
- Enable the SmartSuggest toggle.
AI Product Recommendations appear:
- In the Shopping Bag/Cart right before checkout.
- At the bottom of the final checkout screen.
