Manage Inventory for Deleted Product Variants

This article explains how inventory is handled when deleting product variants in CommentSold, including the updated deletion workflow and how to remove inventory quantities from previously deleted variants.

Understanding Deleted Variant Inventory

The Inventory column on the Products tab displays the total inventory counts for your products. When deleting a product variant, you can now choose whether the inventory associated with that deleted variant should continue to be included in those totals.

Delete a Variant and Manage Inventory

When deleting a product variant, you will now see options to determine how the inventory quantity should be handled.

1. Select Products from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
2. Select the product you wish to modify.
3. Scroll to the Variants section.
4. Select the checkbox beside the Product variants you want to remove.
5. Select the blue Selected drop-down.
6. Select Delete Variants from the drop-down.
7. A selection modal will appear with the following options:
   • Keep Inventory & Delete. Use this option only if you intentionally need to preserve historical inventory quantities.
     • Deletes the product variant.
     • Retains the inventory quantity in the database.
     • Keeps the Product Catalog totals unchanged.
   • Clear Inventory & Delete (Recommended). Use this option if you no longer want the deleted variant inventory included in your totals.
     • Deletes the product variant.
     • Sets the inventory quantity to 0.
     • Updates the Product Catalog totals to reflect only sellable inventory.

Remove Inventory from Previously Deleted Variants

You can also remove inventory quantities from variants that are already deleted.

1. Select Products from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
2. Select the checkboxes beside the products you wish to modify.
3. Select the blue Selected drop-down.
4. Select Remove Quantity for Selected Deleted Variants.

This action resets the inventory quantity to 0 for the selected deleted variants and immediately updates Product Catalog totals to match your current sellable inventory.

Best Practices

• Use Clear Inventory & Delete when permanently removing products from active inventory.
• Regularly review deleted variants if your inventory totals appear inaccurate.
• Use the bulk cleanup action to correct older deleted variants that may still affect catalog totals.
