Schedule Multiple App Notification Banners

You can schedule App Notification Banners in advance, with each banner having its own start and end time. CommentSold automatically switches between scheduled banners and can use a default banner to fill gaps between campaigns.

Use Mobile App > Settings > General > App Notification Banners > Notification banners > Manage Banners to create, schedule, edit, duplicate, and manage your app notification banners.

Note: Shoppers still see one banner at a time. Scheduled banners only change how you manage and queue banners; they don't change how banners appear in the mobile app.

What Are Scheduled Notification Banners?

App notification banners are text banners displayed at the top of your shoppable mobile app.

Previously, only one banner could be active at a time. With scheduled banners, you can now plan multiple campaigns in advance and have CommentSold automatically switch between them.

You can:

  • Schedule up to 50 current and upcoming banners.
  • Set a start date and time for each scheduled banner.
  • Optionally set an end date and time.
  • Create one default banner that fills gaps between scheduled campaigns.
  • See which banner is currently showing and which one is scheduled next.
  • Keep expired banners in your history indefinitely.
  • Duplicate an existing banner to reuse its text and settings.
  • Select and delete multiple banners at once.

Where Do I Enable Notification Banners?

You can manage notification banners from the App Notification banners card.

  1. Go to Mobile App from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Settings from the options listed at the top.
  3. Select General from the sub-options listed at the top of the page.
  4. Find the Notification banners card.
  5. Use the Enabled switch to turn the feature on or off.
  6. Select Manage banners to manage your banners.

From here, you can:

  • Add banners.
  • Schedule banners.
  • Create a default banner.
  • Edit banners.
  • Duplicate banners.
  • Delete individual or multiple banners.
  • Search banners.
  • Review expired banners.

If you haven't created any banners yet, the button displays as Add a banner.

The card also shows:

  • A preview of the banner currently shown to shoppers.
  • An explanation when no banner is currently showing.
  • The number of banners currently queued.
  • The date of the next scheduled banner.

Add and Schedule a Banner

  1. Select Mobile App from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Settings from the options listed at the top.
  3. Select General.
  4. Go to Notification banners.
  5. Select Manage banners.
  6. Select + Add banner.
  7. Enter your Banner text. You can enter up to 90 characters. Longer text may wrap to two lines on smaller phones.
  8. Choose whether the banner is Dismissible. When enabled, shoppers can close the banner and won't see it again.
  9. Under When should this show?, select one of the following:
    • On a schedule — Display the banner during a specific period.
    • Default banner — Use the banner whenever no scheduled banner is active.
  10. If you selected On a schedule, set:
    • Starts — Required.
    • Ends — Optional. Leave it blank to let the banner continue until you end it.
    • Select Now to automatically fill the start time with the current time.
  11. If you selected the Default banner, make sure you don't already have a default banner. Only one default banner is allowed.
  12. Select Save banner.

Create a Default Banner

A default banner is an optional banner that automatically displays whenever no scheduled banner has priority. You can have only one default banner.

  1. Open Notification banners.
  2. Select + Add banner.
  3. Enter the banner text and choose whether it should be dismissible.
  4. Select Default banner.
  5. Select Save banner.

If you already have a default banner, the Default banner option is unavailable. Use the link provided to edit your existing default banner instead.

Tip: You don't have to create a default banner. If you don't have one, shoppers simply see no banner during gaps between scheduled campaigns.

Edit a Banner

You can edit both scheduled banners and your default banner.

  1. Open Notification banners.
  2. Find the banner you want to change.
  3. Select the Edit icon.
  4. Update the banner text, dismissible setting, or schedule.
  5. Save your changes.

Delete a Banner

  1. Open Notification banners.
  2. Find the banner you want to delete.
  3. Select the Delete icon.
  4. Review the confirmation message.
  5. Confirm the deletion.

Deleting a banner is permanent.

If you delete the banner currently showing in your app, it is removed immediately. The next eligible scheduled banner or your default banner takes over.

Important: Deleting a banner cannot be undone. If the banner is currently live, shoppers may immediately see a different banner after you delete it.

Expired Banners

Expired banners are kept indefinitely and don't count toward your 50-banner limit.

Scheduled banners are listed from soonest to latest, while expired banners are shown from most recently expired to oldest.

You can keep expired banners as a history of previous campaigns or duplicate them for future promotions.

How Does CommentSold Choose Which Banner to Show?

Only one banner can be displayed at a time. CommentSold automatically determines which banner has priority.

The rules are:

  • A scheduled banner always takes priority over the default banner.
  • If two scheduled banners overlap, the banner that started most recently takes priority.
  • If two banners have the same start time, the banner created most recently takes priority.
  • If the winning banner ends, an overlapping banner can become visible again if its own end date has not passed.
  • Turning notification banners off hides the banner but does not delete or change your schedules.
Expand to view examples.

Example: Non-Overlapping Banners

If:

  • Banner A runs August 1–7.
  • Banner B runs August 8–14.

Shoppers see:

Default → Banner A → Banner B → Default

The default banner fills the gaps before and after the scheduled campaigns.

Example: Overlapping Banners

If:

  • Banner A runs August 1–20.
  • Banner B runs August 5–7.

Shoppers see:

Banner A → Banner B → Banner A

Banner B takes priority while it's running because it started more recently. Once Banner B ends, Banner A becomes visible again because its end date hasn't passed.

Example: An Overlapping Banner That Doesn't Return

If:

  • Banner A runs August 1–10.
  • Banner B runs August 5–20.

Shoppers see:

Banner A → Banner B

Banner A doesn't return because its end date passes while Banner B is still running.

Example: Using a Default Banner

If you have a default banner and schedule Banner A for August 1–7:

Default → Banner A → Default

The default banner automatically fills the gap before and after Banner A.

Example: Scheduled Banner With No End Date

If Banner C starts September 10 and has no end date, it continues showing from September 10 onward.

The default banner won't appear again unless you edit or remove Banner C.

A scheduled banner without an end date only blocks the default banner. It doesn't prevent future scheduled campaigns from taking over.

For example:

  • Banner C starts September 10 with no end date.
  • Banner D runs December 1–18.

Shoppers see:

Banner C → Banner D → Banner C

Note: Banner changes take effect within approximately two minutes of their scheduled start or end time. All banner times use your shop's timezone.

Banner Status

Banner statuses are automatically calculated based on the current time. You don't manually set a status.

Scheduled Banner Statuses

Status Meaning
Live now This is the banner currently shown to shoppers. Only one scheduled banner can have this status at a time.
Queued The banner is scheduled to show when its turn comes.
Won't show The banner can't currently claim the display slot. The reason appears below the banner.
Expired The banner's end time has passed.

CommentSold may also display an explanation when a banner's actual behavior differs from what you originally scheduled, such as when another campaign takes priority.

Default Banner Statuses

The default banner doesn't have start or end dates, so it has three possible statuses:

Status Meaning
Live now No scheduled banner is currently running, so the default banner is displayed.
Covered A scheduled banner is currently displaying instead. The default banner can return when that banner ends.
Won't show A scheduled banner with no end date has permanently taken over, so the default banner won't display again unless that scheduled banner is edited or removed.

Turn Notification Banners Off

The Enabled toggle controls the entire notification banner feature.

  1. Select Mobile App from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Settings from the options listed at the top.
  3. Select General.
  4. Go to App Notification banners.
  5. Find the Notification banners card.
  6. Turn Enabled off.

When the feature is disabled:

  • No notification banner is shown to shoppers.
  • Existing banners aren't deleted.
  • Scheduled dates and times aren't changed.
  • Your banner queue remains intact.

When you turn the feature back on, the existing schedule continues from where it left off.

Limitations

  • You can have up to 50 current and upcoming banners.
  • Expired banners don't count toward the 50-banner limit.
  • There is no limit on how many expired banners you keep.
  • Only one banner displays at a time. Banners don't rotate between multiple messages.
  • Banners remain text-only and are shown to all mobile app users.
  • Scheduled notification banners affect the mobile app only. They don't control your webstore banner.

FAQs

How many notification banners can I schedule?

You can have up to 50 current and upcoming banners. Expired banners don't count toward this limit.

Can I schedule multiple banners at the same time?

Yes. You can create overlapping banner schedules, but only one banner displays at a time. The banner that started most recently takes priority. If start times are identical, the banner created most recently wins.

Can I have more than one default banner?

No. Each shop can have only one default banner.

Do I need a default banner?

No. A default banner is optional. Without one, shoppers see no banner whenever there isn't an active scheduled banner.

What happens when a scheduled banner ends?

CommentSold automatically selects the next eligible banner. If an overlapping scheduled banner is still active, it can take over. Otherwise, the default banner displays if one exists.

What happens if two scheduled banners overlap?

The scheduled banner that started most recently takes priority. If both started at exactly the same time, the banner created most recently wins.

Can an earlier banner come back after an overlapping banner ends?

Yes. If the earlier banner's own end date hasn't passed, it becomes eligible to display again after the newer banner ends.

What happens if a scheduled banner has no end date?

It continues showing until you edit or end it. It prevents the default banner from displaying, but later scheduled banners can still temporarily take priority.

How quickly do scheduled banners switch?

Banner changes take effect within approximately two minutes of the scheduled start or end time.

What timezone is used for scheduled banners?

All banner start and end times use your shop's timezone.

What happens when I turn notification banners off?

Nothing is deleted. Turning the feature off only hides the banners from shoppers. Your schedules remain unchanged and resume when you turn the feature back on.

Can I reuse an expired banner?

Yes. Expired banners are kept indefinitely. You can duplicate an expired banner and give the duplicate a new schedule.

Can shoppers see more than one banner at a time?

No. Shoppers always see one notification banner at a time.

Does scheduling a notification banner affect my webstore banner?

No. Scheduled notification banners only affect the banner displayed in your mobile app. Webstore banners are managed separately.
