Website Cookies

What is a Cookie and Tracker Consent Management Platform (CMP)?

This is the cookie pop-up that you often see on websites with options like “Accept All,” “Reject All” or “Confirm My Choices.”  It allows users to make choices about cookies, pixels, and other trackers that are used on websites.  For the purposes of this document, we refer to cookies, pixels, scripts, and other tracking technologies collectively as “cookies.”

What CMP is CommentSold Offering? Why is CommentSold Offering it? What are my Options?

We are offering the use of a third-party CMP tool, currently OneTrust (the OneTrust CMP Tool).

You can use the OneTrust CMP Tool, use a different one that you obtain and deploy, or not use one.

If you elect to use the OneTrust CMP Tool, a cookie pop-up will appear on Web pages we provide on your sites (the Hosted Pages) until a user makes a choice. The cookie pop-up for the OneTrust CMP Tool will automatically be branded to the store’s colors. We are offering you access to the OneTrust CMP Tool so that you can give your site visitors notice of the categories of cookies you may use and give them choices about which cookies are enabled when they use your site. This choice is required in certain jurisdictions, with some requiring an opt-out and others an opt-in for the use of non-essential cookies, such as analytics and advertising cookies.

What if I want to use my own CMP?

First, disable the OneTrust CMP Tool on your CommentSold console if it is enabled. (See the instructions for enabling, above).

You can add the code from your provider in your website.

  1. Select Site Creator from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Settings from the options listed at the top.
  3. Select the Advanced drop-down.
  4. Paste your code in the Header section.

Third-party CMPs may affect the performance and functionality of Hosted Sites. CommentSold is not responsible for third-party CMP behaviors and may not be able to troubleshoot them.

What are My Responsibilities?

Compliance with Laws: The OneTrust CMP Tool helps provide consumer choice, but you remain responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, including those regarding privacy and state and federal wiretapping laws.  Neither CommentSold nor our CMP providers are responsible for your legal compliance.

Privacy Policy: You are responsible for ensuring that your Privacy Policy remains up to date, accurately reflects your privacy practices, and complies with all laws and regulations. Click here for a help article about updating your Privacy Policy.

Notify Us of Cookies You Add: The OneTrust CMP Tool available to you through CommentSold does NOT automatically detect or block code you manually add to your website header/footer.  If you place cookies on sites that we support, please notify us at support@commentsold.com so we can initiate a re-scan of your site and have the OneTrust CMP Tool categorize them.

How does the OneTrust CMP Tool Work?

On a scheduled frequency, currently every month, the OneTrust CMP Tool will review the cookies on your sites and use its cookie library to sort them into certain categories (e.g., “Strictly Necessary,” “Functional,” “Performance,” and “Targeting”).

In all US jurisdictions other than California, the OneTrust CMP Tool is currently configured to allow the deployment of cookies unless the user declines them (an opt-out model).  In California and the rest of the world outside the US, the OneTrust CMP Tool is configured to block cookie deployment unless the user accepts them (an opt-in model).  We reserve the right to change this configuration.

Users can accept or reject all cookies, or selectively accept or reject specific categories of cookies.  Users can also change their selections by selecting the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of each webpage where the OneTrust CMP Tool is deployed. See the example below:

Are there Limits on the Use of the OneTrust CMP?

Your use of the OneTrust CMP Tool is subject to certain usage limitations prescribed by CommentSold. These limitations may be based on Hosted Pages’ traffic volume, number of consent interactions, or other metrics as determined by CommentSold. If your usage of the OneTrust CMP Tool exceeds the applicable limitations, CommentSold reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or terminate your access to it or to require you to pay additional fees to continue using it.

How Do I Opt In to Using the OneTrust CMP Tool?

The instructions  below show you how to enable and configure the OneTrust CMP Tool

Enable Website Cookies

  1. Select Website Content from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Cookie Management from the options listed at the top.
  3. Enable Opt-in for OneTrust Cookie Consent Management.

Once enabled, your store will use OneTrust to manage cookie consent for visitors.
