About Product Templates


Product templates allow retailers like you to speed up adding products to CommentSold by pre-populating base information for similar products.

Most businesses on CommentSold repeatedly sell products in the same category such as graphic tees, throw pillows, fabric, housewares, and/or sporting goods. By creating templates with base information entered (e.g., brand, cost, retail price, variants, etc.), retailers can focus on entering the unique product information. This will enable these retailers to enter new inventory quicker.

Create a Product Template


  1. Select Products in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select Add product template from the options listed at the top of the page.
  3. Enter a Template Name.
  4. Enter in additional base information for the product. We walk through an example below.
  5. Once done, select Save Template in the top-right corner of the page.

For the above example, we create a product template for graphic tees. The graphic tees we stock have the following fields in common:

  • Cost. We always pay $5 for a tee, so we entered $5 in this field.
  • Retail Price. Our base retail price is always $15 for graphic tees, so we entered $15 in this field.
  • Brand. We always purchase our graphic tees from the same vendor, KIPS, so we entered this vendor in this field.
  • Size. We always purchase sizes Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large in graphic tees, so we've added these size variants.
  • Tax Code. Graphic tees will always share the same tax code, so we entered the appropriate tax code in the corresponding field.
  • Collections. All graphic tees will be part of our Tees collection, so we've added this collection category to the template.

All the above information will be pre-populated when we add a new graphic tee design to our inventory.

Since each product will have a unique name, description, and SKU, we've left these fields blank so we can complete them when we add the new item.

Edit a Product Template


  1. Select Products in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select your desired template from the Search by template name drop-down list in the top-right corner of the page.
  3. On the new product page, select Edit Template in the top-left corner.
  4. Make the desired changes. In the example above, our cost increased, so we adjusted our retail price.
  5. Once done, select Update Template in the top-right corner of the page.

Your updated template will apply to all items created from the template moving forward.

Add an Item Using a Product Template


  1. Select Products in the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Select your desired template from the Search by template name drop-down list in the top-right corner of the page.
  3. Enter additional information such as Product Name, Description, SKU, Colors, etc.
  4. Select Add Product in the top-right corner of the page and proceed with adding product images and inventory levels.
