Mobile app version 4.7.0 and above supports HTML-formatted product descriptions, allowing shoppers to see rich text formatting such as headings, lists, links, and other supported HTML elements in your mobile app.
How Mobile App Descriptions Work
The description displayed in the mobile app is determined by the product's App Post description.
The Mobile App description can be sourced from:
- Product description
- You can enter a separate description for the online store and the app.
- If you want the same description for both the online store and app, select the Use for Online Store & App checkbox.
- App Post
- Add a custom description and select the Use this message as the product description on mobile checkbox.
Use a Custom Mobile App Description
To use a unique description each time you post a product to your app (instead of the Mobile App description set on the product edit page):
- Select Products from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select the three dots for the desired product.
- Select Post to App.
- Enter your custom description.
- Select Use this message as the product description on mobile.
- Save your post.
The selected App Post description will be used as the product description displayed in your mobile app.
App Post Badges
The App Posts table includes badges to help identify which descriptions are currently being used.
Active Badge
The Active badge indicates the App Post currently being used as the product description in the mobile app.
Custom Description Badge
The Custom Description badge indicates the App Post has Use this message as the product description on mobile enabled.
You can filter the App Posts table by either badge to quickly locate specific App Posts.
Bulk Update Custom Descriptions
You can bulk enable or disable the Use this message as the product description on mobile setting for multiple App Posts at once from the App Posts table.
Shopify Product Considerations
When enabling this feature for Shopify products, the formatting displayed in your mobile app depends on your product settings.
Use for Online Store & App Selected
When the Use for Online Store & App checkbox is selected, both your webstore and mobile app descriptions use the same HTML-formatted product description.
Use for Online Store & App Not Selected
When the Use for Online Store & App checkbox is not selected, the webstore description may be HTML formatted while the mobile app description may not reflect the same formatting.
To sync the HTML-formatted description to the mobile app, either:
- Re-sync the product from Shopify, or
- Select Use for Online Store & App and save the product.
| Note: HTML-formatted product descriptions are supported on mobile app version 4.7.0 and above. Both your shop's app and your customers must be using version 4.7.0 or newer to view formatted descriptions as intended. |
