Posting Items to Facebook

There are multiple ways to post products from your CommentSold inventory for sale on Facebook.

Sell products from static posts on your Facebook Page or Groups in just a few steps! Connecting Facebook to CommentSold allows for automated invoicing and inventory management.

Before you can begin selling on Facebook, you will need to connect your Facebook page and group(s) to CommentSold. If you have not yet done this, read our tutorial here!

Note: If you have fewer than 20K members in your group, we recommend that you create your posts in your Facebook group and follow the steps for autolinking or manual linking. We have found Facebook to discriminate against third party apps posting into groups with fewer than 20K members. This only applies to group posts; Facebook Page posts are unaffected!

Posting to Facebook Directly from CommentSold

The first method of posting products for sale to Facebook is to post directly from within CommentSold.

Note: Making posts through your CommentSold dashboard will allow you to schedule your posts. However, this method is not typically recommended, as it only allows for posting a single image and does not allow posting videos. In addition, Facebook may limit reach for posts from third-party platforms such as CommentSold. We recommend manually linking posts to CommentSold as your main method of posting for this reason.

If you would like to use the direct posting option, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Products tab in your CommentSold admin dashboard.
  2. Click the three dots to the right of the product you would like to post for sale, then click Post to Facebook.

  3. Select the destination for your post—your Facebook Group or Page. Any Facebook groups or pages you have connected to CommentSold will appear as options in the dropdown.

  4. (Optional) Below, you can choose to Post as a Group Admin (if you selected your Facebook group) or post as the Linked Page (the Facebook page that is linked to your Facebook group). CommentSold will select one for you by default if you would like to skip this step.

  5. Enter the Post Message you would like displayed to your customers on Facebook. You can copy and paste the suggested message or enter your own.

  6. Set if you would like to post immediately or schedule the post for a later time.

Note: As a friendly reminder, scheduled post times are based on the Shop Time Zone that you've set in the Setup tab.

  7. If you would like to instantly add a first comment to your Facebook post—to share information or links—enter this as the Post Comment.

  8. If you would like the product published to your app at the same time as it is posted to Facebook for sale, enter the App Notification Title and App Notification Body.

  9. Check the box next to Send the notification? to send customers with the app downloaded to their mobile device a push notification announcing the new item.

  10. Check Post to Instagram to make a duplicate post on Instagram.

Note: You must have a business Instagram account connected to CommentSold for this to work. To learn about the requirements and setup for this connection, read our guide!

  11. Check the box next to Post to Mobile App if you'd like to publish the product to your mobile app.

  12. If you post to the mobile app, but do not want the product to appear in your app's main feed, check Hide from your app's main feed? The product will still appear in associated collections or when searched.

  13. Click the Submit to Facebook and your post will be published or scheduled! Your newly scheduled/published post will now appear in the Posts tab, where you can view and manage details.

Manually Linking Posts to CommentSold

Manual linking allows you to post your items for sale on Facebook and then connect those posts to the products through your CommentSold dashboard. If you plan to upload videos to your posts, we recommend scheduling your posts in advance, then manually linking them to CommentSold.

Pro-tip: To download product photos to use in your post, visit the Products tab in your CommentSold dashboard and click on the image of the product you'd like to include. From here, you can click the downward arrowdownload_image.pngon any product photo to Download Image. This process can be repeated for as many products and as many photos as you would like to download to use in your Facebook post. Of course, if you have the photos already saved to your computer, you can upload them directly to Facebook and skip this step!

If you would like to use the manual linking option, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Facebook page or group and create a new post.
  2. If you want to copy the product description to place it into your Facebook caption,  go to CommentSold and click the three dots next to the product, then select Copy Text. Click the blue Copy Text button on the popup. The product description is now copied to your clipboard and can be pasted into your Facebook post! You can choose to rewrite or create a totally new post if you do not want to use the product description.
  3. Once you have the description and image(s) or video you want to share drafted in Facebook, publish or schedule the post.
  4. After the post is published, return to the Products tab of your CommentSold dashboard. Click the three dots next to the item you posted and select Link to Post. A popup will appear for you to enter additional settings for your post.
  5. Check the box next to Post to Instagram? to make a duplicate post on Instagram.

Note: The Post to Instagram setting 1. Requires you to have your Instagram account connected to CommentSold (see our guide for this here) 2. Will only work with posts that feature a single product and a single photo. Currently, this setting does not support multiple photos or video content.

  6. Check Post to App? if you would like the product in your post to be published to your mobile app.
  7. If you post to the mobile app, but do not want the product to appear in your app's main feed, check Hide from your app's main feed? The product will still appear in associated collections or when searched.
  8. Check Send the notification? if you would like send a push notification to alert app users the product is live. You can edit the Notification Title and Notification Body in the fields below.
  9. Now it's time to find your post in order to link it. All social accounts that are connected to CommentSold and posts made to these channels will appear here.

If you have multiple social accounts, you may need to switch between tabs to locate the post you want to link. I.e., if the post was made to your Page, click Page. If it was made to your Group, click Group.

  10. Once you've found you've found your post, click the Link button next to it. When successful, you will be returned to your Products tab and will see a blue banner confirming that the post has been linked.

If you'd like to view and monitor your post, you can do so from the Posts tab.

Autolinking Posts to CommentSold

Autolinking connects posts you have made on Facebook to the products within CommentSold automatically, as long as the post caption includes the product's #SKU.

Requirements & Considerations for Autolinking

Autolinking is a setting that must be enabled in order to start using this method of posting. To enable, go to Social Setup > Facebook Groups and toggle on Autolink to post. When enabled, it will apply to any Facebook Page and/or Group you've connected to CommentSold.
mceclip3.pngBelow this setting is another setting to consider- Post to Instagram on Autolink. If enabled, this will publish your autolinked Facebook posts to Instagram as well. If you decide to use this setting, keep in mind, 1. This setting requires you to have your Instagram account connected to CommentSold (see guide for this here). 2. This setting does not yet support posts using video or multiple photos.

If you would like to use the autolinking option, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Facebook page or group and start a new post.
  2. If you entered a description when adding your product and you would like to use this description for your Facebook post, click the three dots next to the product and select Copy Text. Then click the blue Copy Text button on the popup. The product description is now copied to your clipboard and can be pasted into your Facebook post! You can choose to rewrite or create a totally new post if you do not want to use the product description. Remember, you must include #SKU (with the appropriate product SKU) for autolinking to be successful.
  3. Once you have the description and image(s) or video you want to share drafted in Facebook, publish or schedule the post.
  4. Once the post is published to Facebook, you can verify that it was linked successfully by looking for it in the the Posts tab in your CommentSold dashboard. When your post appears here, you will know that it was successful.

Using the CommentSold Auto Scheduler

If you would like to automate more of the sales post to your Facebook group, you can do so with CommentSold's Auto Scheduler feature. To enable, visit the Setup tab, then click Auto Scheduler from the top menu.

The Auto Scheduler is disabled by default. To turn it on, click the green button to Enable Auto Scheduler.

Next, you'll set the Minimum Quantity that an item must have in stock and the Minimum Number of Days since the post was last shared. CommentSold will use these settings to search your previous sales posts and identify potential reposts.

Both fields will reflect the default settings - Quantity: 10, Min Days: 7. If you make changes to these settings, make sure to click the green buttons below to update each independently.

5.webp

You'll then set the times at which you would like automated reposts to be shared with your Facebook group. If you would like multiple posts to be reshared on days when multiple posts qualify (according to the minimum quantity and minimum days set above), you will enter multiple times here.

6.webp

Lastly, you'll need to enable reposts in each Facebook group that you would like this feature used in. If you enable reposts for multiple groups, sales posts will only be reshared to the same group they were originally posted in.

7.webp

Once all of these steps are completed, CommentSold will check your previous posts every night at midnight for any qualifying products. Posts that meet the minimum quantity and minimum days requirements that you set will be scheduled!

Turning Off Facebook Sale Format

Occasionally, a product post to Facebook may be automatically formatted as a sale post, which looks similar to a Marketplace listing. Using dollar signs and decimals increases the likelihood that Facebook will tag your post as a sale post.

Sale posts may be limited in reach, and can prevent CommentSold from linking products to the posts and reading comments from them.

Note: If you schedule your posts through Facebook, you can identify posts with sale format and turn it off before they are even published!

If this does happen to one of your posts, it's easy to turn off sale format.

Turning Off Sale Format From a Computer

  1. Make sure that you are interacting with the post with the same Facebook account that created the post.
  2. Locate the post.
  3. Click the three dots on the top right.
  4. Click "Turn off sale format."

  1. Make sure that you are interacting with the post with the same Facebook account that created the post.
  2. Locate the post in your Facebook group.
  3. Click the Undo button below the post, and you're done!

What if I don't see the option to remove the sale format?

Make sure you are interacting with the post as the profile or page that posted it. If you made the post from your personal Facebook profile, you will need to be interacting with it as yourself. If you made the post as your page, you will need to be interacting with it as your page.
