Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) lets eligible customers split their purchase into multiple payments. CommentSold supports Affirm, Klarna, Sezzle, Afterpay, Zip, and PayPal Pay in 4.
Most BNPL options can be activated from Setup > Payment Gateways. PayPal Pay in 4 is automatically available when PayPal is enabled.
Which BNPL payment options can I offer?
| Payment option | Customer payment | Requirements | Order range |
| Affirm | Flexible monthly or biweekly payments | CS Payments | Varies |
| Klarna | 4 interest-free payments | CS Payments | $10 minimum; maximum varies |
| Sezzle | 4 interest-free payments over 6 weeks | Sezzle Merchant Account | Determined by Sezzle |
| Afterpay | 4 interest-free payments | CS Payments + approval | $1–$4,000 |
| Zip | 4 payments; fee applies | CS Payments + approval | $35–$1,500 |
| PayPal Pay in 4 | 4 interest-free payments over 6 weeks | PayPal enabled | Determined by PayPal |
| Note: BNPL providers determine customer eligibility. A payment option may not appear for every customer or order, even when your shop has activated it. |
Before you activate BNPL
The requirements depend on the payment option.
- Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, and Zip: Your shop must use CS Payments.
- Sezzle: You need an approved Sezzle Merchant Account and your Sezzle API keys.
- PayPal Pay in 4: You only need to enable PayPal. Pay in 4 does not require separate activation.
Activate Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, or Zip
Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, and Zip use a similar activation process.
- Select Setup from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select Payment Gateways from the options listed at the top.
- Find the Buy Now, Pay Later section.
- Locate the payment option you want to activate.
- Select Activate.
- Follow any prompts to complete activation.
For Afterpay and Zip, the payment method may initially show Pending while Stripe reviews your request. Once approved, the status changes to Activated.
| Important: Afterpay and Zip are activated separately. Being approved for one does not guarantee approval for the other. |
What do the statuses mean?
| Status | Meaning |
| Pending | The activation request is being reviewed. |
| Activated | The payment method is approved and available to eligible customers. |
| Not shown | The payment method is not currently available for your shop. |
Connect Sezzle
To offer Sezzle, you must connect your approved Sezzle Merchant Account to CommentSold.
- Select Setup from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select Payment Gateways from the options listed at the top.
- Find Sezzle.
- Enter your Sezzle API keys.
- Select Update Keys.
You can then enable Display on Product Page if you want Sezzle payment messaging to appear on your product pages.
| Note: Sezzle merchant applications can take up to three business days to be approved. |
Offer PayPal Pay in 4
You don't need to activate PayPal Pay in 4 separately.
When PayPal is enabled, eligible customers can select Pay in 4 during PayPal checkout.
Customers make 4 interest-free payments over six weeks, with the first payment due at checkout.
Display BNPL messaging on product pages
After activating a supported BNPL option, you can choose whether to display its payment messaging on your product pages.
- Select Setup from the side menu of your CommentSold dashboard.
- Select Payment Gateways from the options listed at the top.
- Find the activated BNPL payment option.
- Turn on Display on Product Page.
| Important: This setting only controls BNPL messaging on product pages. It does not control whether the payment option is available at checkout. |
Zip uses its own messaging because it charges an origination fee. The messaging does not display a specific installment amount because the fee can vary by order.
Important BNPL limitations
- CS Payments is required for Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, and Zip.
- BNPL options are only shown when the customer's order meets the provider's requirements.
- Afterpay supports eligible orders from $1 to $4,000.
- Zip supports eligible orders from $35 to $1,500.
- Zip charges an origination fee, so its messaging does not show a specific installment dollar amount.
- Afterpay and Zip providers have different approval requirements. Approval for one is not approval for both.
- Klarna requires a minimum order of $10.
- BNPL providers make their own customer eligibility and payment-approval decisions.
FAQs
Why isn't a BNPL option showing at checkout?
Check that:
- The payment method is activated.
- Your shop meets the payment provider's requirements.
- The order falls within the provider's supported range.
- The customer is eligible to use the payment method.
Does turning off Display on Product Page disable BNPL at checkout?
No. Display on Product Page only controls the messaging shown on product pages. Customers can still see the payment option at checkout if they are eligible.
Can I offer more than one BNPL option?
Yes. You can activate multiple supported BNPL options. Customers will see the options they are eligible to use based on the payment provider's requirements and order amount.
Does PayPal Pay in 4 require separate activation?
No. PayPal Pay in 4 is available automatically to eligible customers when PayPal is enabled.
Why was my shop approved for Afterpay but not Zip?
Afterpay and Zip have separate approval requirements. Approval for one provider does not guarantee approval for another.
Does CommentSold determine whether a customer is eligible for BNPL?
No. The BNPL provider determines customer eligibility and approves or declines the customer's payment.
